Go to Germany without leaving the US
Recently my husband, his neice, her husband, their 3 children, my neice, and myself rented a wheelchair accessible cabin in Helen, GA. Helen is a small German town in the northern part of the state along the Chatahoochee River. We rented the cabin from Tanglewood Cabins. They had a 4 bedroom plus loft accessible cabin to suit all of us. The cabin had a big back deck (without a lip) overlooking the woods. We had a great time barbequing and roasting marshmellows out there. As I said in my initial article my husband is a quadraplegic in a tilt and recline power chair and he was able to maneuver all through the cabin. Getting into the bedroom was a bit tight but he made it. Each bedroom has its own sink so it was nice for his aid to be able to get him washed up without going outside the room.
There are lots of things to do in Helen, especially for the kids. Tubing down the Chatahoochie River in the middle of the town, Ice cream shops, candy shops, go kart riding, horse and carriage rides, All wheelchair accessible (except for Go-Karts and Tubing) even one of the Horse and Carriage rides had a ramp into it.
(sorry the one with the ramp left before I could get my camera out)
Every October they put on the biggest Octoberfest in the country but reservations would need to be made way in advance. It truly is a magical town and a great place for Family memories.
